Pro gaming competitions are experiencing record growth this year, especially in the U.S. Thanks to new streaming capabilities, game fans can check out live coverage of major gaming events and even tune in to watch professional players practice from their homes or at special LAN events.
TwitchTV, the world’s largest video game broadcasting community, has revealed updated growth metrics for the second half of 2011 that illustrate the momentum of the video game streaming movement. The site now engages more than 12 million unique viewers every month, has more than 1,000 premium partners, and has received more than 80,000 downloads of their iPhone mobile application in less than a month since the app’s launch.

“The tremendous growth we have experienced over the last six months is indicative of several burgeoning trends,” said Emmett Shear, CEO of TwitchTV. “Not only are gamers elevating their interest in watching others play in a community-driven fashion, but our partners providing the content have taken streaming to new heights. We attribute our role as the premier destination for the movement’s top players, teams, leagues and events to the innovative technology we’ve implemented that enables our partners to monetize their offerings in a manner we haven’t seen before.”
After TwitchTV launched in June of 2011, they unveiled their premium TwitchTV Partner Program. This was a revenue-sharing option for top content producers comprised of the world’s leading gaming video broadcasters. Today, TwitchTV announced that the program is now more than 1,000 members strong with top partners including Electronic Sports League (ESL), , IGN Pro League (IPL), Major League Gaming (MLG), North American Star League (NASL), and Sean Plott’s Day[9]TV, among many others.
