Battlefield 3 Weapon Attachments to Receive Big Changes

 Frome intelblog.com:

Alan Kertz, Senior Gameplay Designer at DICE, has some significant weapon balance changes in mind that might be making its way to Battlefield 3 soon.
Recently on Reddit, Kertz threw around some ideas for various weapon attachments and came up with a few suggestions. The primary goal is to “focus on improving the under performing and under used attachments.” He also mentioned he wanted to give more weight to unmodified weapons so that they will “offer the best balance of Recoil, Accuracy, and Stealth.” Based on feedback and other discussions among the community, Kertz came up with a list of changes he would like to make to weapon attachments in the future. This, however, is not guaranteed and is subject to change. Keep reading for a summary of each attachment, whether they are being nerfed or buffed, and how the developers at DICE feel they should be used.
Foregrip (Nerfed)
The foregrip’s purpose is to reduce vertical recoil by 34% while giving a -20% penalty to base accuracy while aimed down sight. Generally, it should be used for close quarter situations when firing from the hip would me much more beneficial.
Bipod (Buffed)
The Bipod is meant for players who want to take the time to set up in a good position and defend said position or objective. It will reduce horizontal and vertical recoil (percentage depending on the weapon) as well as bullet dispersion (again, depending on the weapon and ammo type).
Suppressor (Slightly Nerfed)
The Suppressor’s main function is to provide stealth (keeping the player from showing up on the minimap when firing as well as reduce sound and visual muzzle signature) as well as provide an additional 25% accuracy bonus when aiming down sight including a 10% reduction in vertical recoil, due to it’s weight. However, the drawback here will be a reduction in minimum and maximum range (not damage) as well as a -50% penalty to base accuracy when firing from the hip.
Heavy Barrel (Greatly Buffed)
The Heavy Barrel will allow players to increase their maximum range (not damage) as well as benefit from a 50% bonus to base accuracy when aimed down sight. However, due to the barrel’s weight, it will make firing from the hip -25% less accurate as well as increase the dispersion per shot by 25%.
Flash Suppressor (Greatly Buffed)
The Flash Suppressor will give players some of the benefits of the suppressor but without as many penalties. It will only provide players with a reduction in visual muzzle signature as well as a 20& reduction in vertical recoil. The penalty here will be a -20% decrease in base accuracy when firing from the hip.
Target Pointer (Unchanged)
The Target Pointer will greatly benefit those firing from the hip by providing a 33% increase in base accuracy. On top of this, it will still be able to slightly blind opponents but will also give away the players position more easily.
No Attachments
It was not mentioned in Kertz’s Reddit post, but we can assume that a base weapon would be ideal for players who wish to avoid any negatives of any attachments, provided that they feel the bare state of the weapon is fine.

PS3 Owners Sue EA Over Battlefield 3

 No 1943 means litigation, soldier!
From IGN:

Back at E3, Sony took the stage and announced that Battlefield 1943 would be bundled exclusively on the Battlefield 3 Blu-ray for PlayStation 3. Then, months passed, Battlefield 3 came out without 1943, and everyone kind of forgot about it.

Everyone except the folks in the class action lawsuit from the law firm Edelson McGuire. BF3blog.com reports the suit alleges EA was "making a promise they could not, and never intended, to keep." BF3blog.com didn't report on the number of people involved in the class action suit.

Of course, since the release of Battlefield 3, EA has attempted to make amends by promising PS3 players DLC early, but PS3 players were already getting at least one DLC pack early.

Off Book: Video Games | PBS Arts

Video games are important. They are a storytelling medium, a place for self-expression, a sandbox for the human imagination, and an extension of an ages old tradition of gaming. We play out some of the most essential aspects of our culture in games, and we learn more about ourselves and the world around us in the process. From the powerful cinematic experiences of mainstream gaming, to the hyper-personal environments of indie games, we are in the midst of an explosion of gaming activity that, as some predict, will continue to define the way we live and interact with information, and each other, far into the future.

Activision Wins ModernWarfare3.com Court Case

From G4TV:

You might remember some news kicking up back in early July about the website ModernWarfare3.com suddenly redirecting all visitors to the homepage for Electronic Arts' competing holiday 2011 title, Battlefield 3. Activision justifiably wasted no time in taking legal action against the offending domain owner, and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 publisher has emerged victorious.

A three member panel decided in the company's favor after Miami resident and former ModernWarfare3.com domain owner Anthony Abraham failed to make a case for "Modern Warfare" being a generic term (via gamesindustry.biz). Probably tough to make the case when the site that existed at that domain before the redirect was filled with anti-Call of Duty rhetoric.

The lawsuit was first filed with the National Arbitration Forum (check out the official documents at Fusible) on July 15, and it cost Activision just $2,600. As legal matters go, this one seems like it was pretty open-and-shut.

EA (Battlefield 3) To Follow Activision’s Call Of Duty: Elite

From SFX-360:
EA will eventually launch its own premium subscription based Battlelog service in a move to emulate Activision‘s Call of Duty: Elite, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has predicted.
Elite launches on November 8 alongside Modern Warfare 3, while Battlelog is a free service for this October’s Battlefield 3. On a free level, each service offers comparable statistic tracking, friend management and social networking.
However, Pachter believes the success of Elite will convince EA to follow suit.
“We expect the $50/year premium Elite membership plan to be very popular with Call of Duty’s hard core gamers,” wrote Pachter. “At $50/year, Elite membership is a no-brainer for those who plan to purchase all of Modern Warfare 3′s DLC, as the annual spend will presumably decrease by at least $10 (last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops had four map packs that cost $15 each, for a total spend of $60).
“There were 18 million map packs sold in the first six months this year, comprising three different packs: we believe that 1 million consumers bought all three, 3 million bought two packs, and 9 million bought one apiece. Thus, we expect that at least 1 million will sign up for the premium Elite membership by year end. The Call of Duty network effect may be amplified by premium Elite, such that if a gamer’s friend purchases premium Elite and gets access to premium maps, the gamer may feel compelled to purchase premium Elite in order to compete as early and as often as possible. We expect the network of premium Elite subscribers to grow to critical mass within a few years, with 3 million likely subscribers by year-end 2012 and 5 million by year-end 2013.”
He added: “Although Battlelog and non-premium Elite memberships are free and offer many similar features, we think that many hard core Call of Duty gamers will opt for premium Elite, particularly if the total DLC spend for Battlefield 3 is expected to exceed $50. Ultimately, we expect Electronic Arts to emulate Activision and charge for Battlelog by including map packs with the service for a $50 fee.”

Special Thanks and hat tip to SFX-360 for breaking this story!
What do you think about this move by EA? Do you think they are a little late to the game?

Battlefield 3 Hands-On Report

From Playstation, Sid Shuman // Senior Social Media Specialist:

"War has changed. And fortunately, it’s changed for the better. Not long ago, Jeff and I went hands-on with an early, pre-alpha PS3 build of Battlefield 3’s multiplayer mode. Building on the positive buzz behind the smash hit Battlefield Bad Company 2, developer DICE is crafting a muscular follow-up that leverages new animation and rendering tech, revamped online features, and a rough-and-tumble feel to create a new breed of military shooter.
During the multiplayer battle, Jeff and I found ourselves on opposing sides (my side won, naturally). Following our all-too-brief hands-on session, Jeff and I compared notes on the finer points of Battlefield 3’s multiplayer mode."

Battleblog #3: With An Army By Your Side

Looks interesting. Here is the latest news on the "social-network" aspect of BF3:

From the Battleblog:

Never go into battle alone again thanks to the powerful new community features of Battlelog, Battlefield 3’s unique no-cost social network. “We want to make Battlefield 3 a more social gaming experience and it all starts with Battlelog,” says Fredrik Loving, Battlelog Producer at DICE. “We are changing how you communicate, play, compete and share content with their friends, extending the in-game experience to be accessible from your home computer, on your handheld devices while commuting, or wherever you may be." And that’s what DICE set out to do.

Included in Battlelog is the Battlefeed, your entry point to this new program. The Battlefeed is your main window into Battlelog, showing current events around your network in real-time, giving you a live snapshot of what those in your network are doing in the world of Battlefield. “The feed will encourage people to play even more,” explains Loving. “They will see their friends ranking up, receiving awards they don’t have yet, or getting the new cool guns they have been missing. It will increase the competitive edge. Everything you do on the battlefield is shared amongst your friends.”

Again, here is the link to the story.

Battlefield 3 Leaked Apha Screenshots

Source bf3blog.com:

From the bf3blog.com:

EA and DICE are currently running alpha/beta testing on the new Battlelog service, where a number of third party testers have been given access to the alpha version of Battlefiled 3 in order to test Battlelog. One of the testers sent us these screenshots of Battlefield 3, which is in alpha mode. The map is the same as we’ve seen at E3: Operation Metro. While the screenshots don’t reveal anything we haven’t seen yet, we do, for the first time, get a good glimpse of the Battlefield 3 HUD. There’s also an extra screenshot of Battlelog, showing a server browser.

So far the game is looking outstanding!

Is DICE "Photoshopping" Battlefield 3 Game footage?

Is it real or is it Memorex? That's a slogan from a long time ago used by Memorex to sell cassette tapes. Is DICE wanting us to ask the same of battlefield 3 Footage. The folks over at The Game Headz think so:

"Featuring one of the longest lines at E3 2011 was EA’s hit shooter, Battlefield 3. The game looks like it can make the Battlefield run green with money come this holiday seasons. While at E3, something seemed odd about EA’s media presentation of Battlefield 3. After seating us in a small room, Dice made our dog tags, and we were greeted by a screen shot presentation while one of the developers explained what they have shown so far. The odd thing is that they never showed the videos of the gameplay they were talking about. In fact, no gameplay videos were shown during the presentation. Throughout the entire event, Dice only showed screen shots in an almost power point like presentation."

Botchweed also has a story up on this.

What do you think? Is this the same as when Sony tricked everyone with pre-rendered Killzone 2 gameplay footage? How concerned are you about a let down in graphics?

Modern Warfare 3 Web Domain Redirects to Battlefield 3 Website

DIRTY TRICKS? FAIR GAME?

If you're looking for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 information, you're definitely not going to find it at www.modernwarfare3.com -- the deceiving URL actually redirects to EA's own official website for Battlefield 3.

I personally think "All is Fair in Love and War".

Battlefield 3: No STEAM Access?

Source: Dualshockers
It looks like EA has it's own digital distribution network in mind this Fall when it releases Battlefield 3:

"The list of digital retailers Battlefield 3 will be available from has been released, and one name in particular is missing from the list; Steam. This is of course a very deliberate choice, as EA is heavily pimping their own digital platform; Origin."

***Note: The list can't be accessed now. 404 error

This should be very interesting. PC players might be a little miffed.

What do you think about this?

Battlefield 3-Two New Features Revealed: Bipods and Suppressive Fire

The latest update from the Battleblog:

"As mentioned, the four classes available in Battlefield 3 are Assault, Engineer, Support and Recon. All classes include familiar elements, but this time around, we’re tweaking things a bit, bringing something new to our online multiplayer. Our Assault class is still the frontline run and gun class, and considering the havoc and fallen team members someone will see while on the frontlines, the Assault soldier now has medic abilities. That’s right, all the abilities such as medkits and defibrillators typically found on the Medic class are now incorporated into Assault. It makes sense that the class on the frontline will be able to revive fallen team mates, right? Right! Remember, you can play it your way, so if you want to customize your Assault soldier more towards medic abilities or towards serious gunplay, it’s totally up to you."

No MOD Tools (PC) for BF3--Too Complex other Questions Answered

DICE executive Patrick Soderlund answered other questions in an interview with Gamestart Magazine such as: Will BF3 have a version of Call of Duty Elite? He said yes and it would be absolutely free unlike Activision's version. He also mentioned that MOD tools will not be available and that other tactical modes that will be as good as or better than "commo-rose". Watch the entire interview here.

Battlefield 3 introduces "Infantry Only" Combat Modes

From the Battleblog, Lars Gustavsson discusses bringing back TDM and Infantry only game modes:

"We are bringing Team Deathmatch back to the multiplayer menu! It's been absent since Battlefield 1942, and to quote Lars Gustavsson, “It would almost be a criminal offense not to offer TDM to our fans, especially with the tactical destruction and realistic soldier movement  that Frostbite 2 brings to the game”. Our efforts to let you play Battlefield 3 your way also means that you will have the option to play infantry only matches, for that up close and personal touch."

I believe this game is going to be epic in every way. What do you think about infantry only and TDM being back in the game?

Battlefield 3: We are doing things no one else is capable of

Team Deathmatch will be in BF3. Look for this game to be, put simply, awe-inspiring!
This game is visually mesmerizing...

Here is an excerpt from the interview with Lars Gustavsson of EA:

"The new engine is responsible for the return of the mode. Lars says it was a no-brainer once they’d realised the multiplayer potential: “It would almost be a criminal offense not to offer TDM to our fans, especially with the tactical destruction and realistic soldier movement that Frostbite 2 brings to the game. Our efforts to let you play Battlefield 3 your way also means that you will have the option to play infantry only matches, for that up close and personal touch.”
