PS3 Owners Sue EA Over Battlefield 3

 No 1943 means litigation, soldier!
From IGN:

Back at E3, Sony took the stage and announced that Battlefield 1943 would be bundled exclusively on the Battlefield 3 Blu-ray for PlayStation 3. Then, months passed, Battlefield 3 came out without 1943, and everyone kind of forgot about it.

Everyone except the folks in the class action lawsuit from the law firm Edelson McGuire. BF3blog.com reports the suit alleges EA was "making a promise they could not, and never intended, to keep." BF3blog.com didn't report on the number of people involved in the class action suit.

Of course, since the release of Battlefield 3, EA has attempted to make amends by promising PS3 players DLC early, but PS3 players were already getting at least one DLC pack early.

US Pre-Order Numbers for Modern Warfare 3 VS. Battlefield 3

From Charlieintel:

With less than a week to go for Battlefield 3 and less than 3 weeks for Modern Warfare 3, we thought it would be a good time to compare near final pre-order numbers for one of the biggest FPS wars of the century.
Modern Warfare 3
-Xbox 360: 1,719,144
-PS3: 672,562
-Total: 2,391,706
Battlefield 3
-Xbox 360: 1,072,593
-PS3: 448,616
-Total: 1,521,209
No one really expected Battlefield 3 to outsell Modern Warfare 3 (even according to EA), yet there’s no question that BF3 has created more hype and obtained 6x the amount of pre-orders as its predecessor Bad Company 2. However even with a 5 month head start, Modern Warfare 3 has managed to capture 1,170,497 more pre-orders than BF3… FTW
*Interestingly enough, Battlefield 3 has been marketed as a “PC Lead” title, however BF3 console pre-orders are beating PC pre-orders (146,809) at a rate of 10 to 1.

**Also, Playstation 3 has access to BF3 DLC one week early, yet Xbox 360 pre-orders are beating PS3 at a rate of 2 to 1.

MW3: The P-90 Review by Charlie Intel

The PP-90M1 submachine gun is the latest development of the Tula-based famous KBP design bureau. It is a completely new development, despite its designation, that could misleadingly suggest that it is a derivative of the PP-90 and PP-90M folding clandestine machine guns. PP-90M1 could be described as a more modern rival to the “Bizon” PP-19 submachine gun, made in Izhevsk. It is intended to provide compact and lightweight police weapon that could lay serious amount of fire, thanks to its large-capacity helical magazine (similar in basic concept and design to “Bizon”and Calico submachine guns magazines). The most interesting part about PP-90M1 is, however, that it also could be fitted with adapter and then use typical box magazines, which are lighter, have slimmer profile and 1/2 capacity of standard helical magazine. It is not yet known if PP-90M1 is in use with any major law enforcement or security force in Russia.
PP-90M1 is a conventional blowback operated, selective fired machine gun. The gun housing is made entirely from plastic, including integral pistol handle and trigger guard. The top-folding buttstock is made from stamped steel. Safety / fire mode selector is located at the left side of the gun, above the trigger. The charging “button” is located just above the muzzle and should be pressed with one finger (not that easy to do so!) to retract the bolt. It is also unsafe, in my opinion, and mounting of silencer will interfere with charging, too. Weird! Another strange, if not weird, thing is the field stripping. To disassemble the PP-90M1, one must screw out the long disassembly screw, located above the magazine. This requires no tools, but can take about 20-30 seconds. When screw is gone, you then can took the barrel, bolt and return spring out of the gun by pulling it forward.

Caliber: 9x19mm 7N21 and 7N31, compatible with all 9x19mm Luger/Parabellum ammo
Weight: ca 1.7 kg less magazine
Length (stock closed/open): 424 / 620 mm
Rate of fire: 500 rounds per minute
Magazine capacity: 32 rounds (box magazine) or 64 rounds (helical magazine)
Effective range: up to 200 meters

Activision Wins ModernWarfare3.com Court Case

From G4TV:

You might remember some news kicking up back in early July about the website ModernWarfare3.com suddenly redirecting all visitors to the homepage for Electronic Arts' competing holiday 2011 title, Battlefield 3. Activision justifiably wasted no time in taking legal action against the offending domain owner, and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 publisher has emerged victorious.

A three member panel decided in the company's favor after Miami resident and former ModernWarfare3.com domain owner Anthony Abraham failed to make a case for "Modern Warfare" being a generic term (via gamesindustry.biz). Probably tough to make the case when the site that existed at that domain before the redirect was filled with anti-Call of Duty rhetoric.

The lawsuit was first filed with the National Arbitration Forum (check out the official documents at Fusible) on July 15, and it cost Activision just $2,600. As legal matters go, this one seems like it was pretty open-and-shut.

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition Details Revealed

Battlefield 3 Limited Edition details revealed!

Battlefield-3-D-EA-600x250

In what has become an increasingly common trend by EA, gamers who preorder Battlefield 3 will be automatically upgraded to a “limited edition” of the game full of in-game goodies (like anyone in their right mind needed extra incentives to buy this on release day). By preordering the game at select retailers, players can expect redeemable codes for:
  • Back to Karkand expansion: four multiplayer maps from Battlefield 2 have received a facelift, including Strike at Karkand, Gulf of Oman, and Sharqi Peninsula.
  • Physical Warfare Pack: a set of three weapons, the Type 88 light machinegun with bipod mount; the SKS sniper rifle flash suppressor, an extra stealth measure for Recon soldiers; and flechette ammo for the DAO-12 semi-auto shotgun, which is the last thing you’d want poiting straight at your face during close encounters.
  • SPECACT Kit: eight additional multiplayer skins, one for each class.
  • Dog tag Pack: dog tags will serve as the game’s multiplayer signature, and this pack adds another five unique designs to choose from.

Battlefield 3 Hands-On Report

From Playstation, Sid Shuman // Senior Social Media Specialist:

"War has changed. And fortunately, it’s changed for the better. Not long ago, Jeff and I went hands-on with an early, pre-alpha PS3 build of Battlefield 3’s multiplayer mode. Building on the positive buzz behind the smash hit Battlefield Bad Company 2, developer DICE is crafting a muscular follow-up that leverages new animation and rendering tech, revamped online features, and a rough-and-tumble feel to create a new breed of military shooter.
During the multiplayer battle, Jeff and I found ourselves on opposing sides (my side won, naturally). Following our all-too-brief hands-on session, Jeff and I compared notes on the finer points of Battlefield 3’s multiplayer mode."

Modern Warfare 3 Web Domain Redirects to Battlefield 3 Website

DIRTY TRICKS? FAIR GAME?

If you're looking for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 information, you're definitely not going to find it at www.modernwarfare3.com -- the deceiving URL actually redirects to EA's own official website for Battlefield 3.

Check out the entire story here at GamePro.com

I personally think "All is Fair in Love and War".

Battlefield 3: No STEAM Access?

Source: Dualshockers
It looks like EA has it's own digital distribution network in mind this Fall when it releases Battlefield 3:

"The list of digital retailers Battlefield 3 will be available from has been released, and one name in particular is missing from the list; Steam. This is of course a very deliberate choice, as EA is heavily pimping their own digital platform; Origin."

***Note: The list can't be accessed now. 404 error

This should be very interesting. PC players might be a little miffed.

What do you think about this?

No MOD Tools (PC) for BF3--Too Complex other Questions Answered

DICE executive Patrick Soderlund answered other questions in an interview with Gamestart Magazine such as: Will BF3 have a version of Call of Duty Elite? He said yes and it would be absolutely free unlike Activision's version. He also mentioned that MOD tools will not be available and that other tactical modes that will be as good as or better than "commo-rose". Watch the entire interview here.

Battlefield 3 introduces "Infantry Only" Combat Modes

From the Battleblog, Lars Gustavsson discusses bringing back TDM and Infantry only game modes:

"We are bringing Team Deathmatch back to the multiplayer menu! It's been absent since Battlefield 1942, and to quote Lars Gustavsson, “It would almost be a criminal offense not to offer TDM to our fans, especially with the tactical destruction and realistic soldier movement  that Frostbite 2 brings to the game”. Our efforts to let you play Battlefield 3 your way also means that you will have the option to play infantry only matches, for that up close and personal touch."

I believe this game is going to be epic in every way. What do you think about infantry only and TDM being back in the game?

Battlefield 3's "Dice" engine to finally show off PS3's true capability??

Executive producer Patrick Bach says PS3 version will be very close to PC 60 FPS. Do you believe him? I have been waiting for the PS3 to be fully utilized by a Game developer and maybe the time has come. The PS3 hardware really does outperform the XBOX as far as capability and processing but it has never been challenged so far by any developer. I look forward to BF3..what about you? Do you think the PS3 will finally get to show off it's capability?--Tango Down (TC)

Infintiy Ward's Robert Bowling says buy both MW3 and BF3

Different games and both are going to make serious bank this Fall, 2011.

From the Examiner.com website:
Bowling is showing great respect for the development team at Dice and Battlefield 3. With each title competing against each other this fall for the FPS genre crown, things will get interesting, but each title will be catering to their own type of audience. Battlefield 3 has been described as a ‘documentary’ by Kojima; meanwhile Call of Duty is an ‘action movie’.

Supreme Court Rules Against Violent Video Game Ban (California Law)

In a major win for the video game industry and Free Speech, the United States Supreme Court has struck down California's game law. It was a 7-2 decision, ruling that California's law forbidding the sale or rental of violent games to minors do not comport with the First Amendment. In short: The Game industry won.

The 92-page decision boils down to the following passage:

"This country has no tradition of specially restricting children’s access to depictions of violence. And California’s claim that 'interactive' video games present special problems, in that the player participates in the violent action on screen and determines its out-come, is unpersuasive."

LulzSec hacking group quits--but not before hitting EA

The letter from LulzSec after hacking EA's Battlefield Heroes:
Friends around the globe,

We are Lulz Security, and this is our final release, as today marks something meaningful to us. 50 days ago, we set sail with our humble ship on an uneasy and brutal ocean: the Internet. The hate machine, the love machine, the machine powered by many machines. We are all part of it, helping it grow, and helping it grow on us.

For the past 50 days we've been disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame, recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures. You are not failures. You have not blown away. You can get what you want and you are worth having it, believe in yourself.

While we are responsible for everything that The Lulz Boat is, we are not tied to this identity permanently. Behind this jolly visage of rainbows and top hats, we are people. People with a preference for music, a preference for food; we have varying taste in clothes and television, we are just like you. Even Hitler and Osama Bin Laden had these unique variations and style, and isn't that interesting to know? The mediocre painter turned supervillain liked cats more than we did.

Again, behind the mask, behind the insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of those looking for more anarchic lulz. We hope, wish, even beg, that the movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on without us. The support we've gathered for it in such a short space of time is truly overwhelming, and not to mention humbling. Please don't stop. Together, united, we can stomp down our common oppressors and imbue ourselves with the power and freedom we deserve.

So with those last thoughts, it's time to say bon voyage. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must now sail into the distance, leaving behind - we hope - inspiration, fear, denial, happiness, approval, disapproval, mockery, embarrassment, thoughtfulness, jealousy, hate, even love. If anything, we hope we had a microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere.

Thank you for sailing with us. The breeze is fresh and the sun is setting, so now we head for the horizon.

Let it flow...

Lulz Security - our crew of six wishes you a happy 2011, and a shout-out to all of our battlefleet members and supporters across the globe
